#TipTuesday: Sustainable Halloween Costumes
We compiled 5 tips to ensure you have an awesome & sustainable Halloween costume!
1. Use what you already have
If you don’t want to spend money on your costume or you’re too lazy to get one, put something together using existing pieces in your closet. For example, you could be “blackmail”, which could entail an all black ensemble (using existing clothes from your wardrobe) and you could stick an envelope on your outfit. Ta-da!
2. Recycle a friend’s costume
Again, this works if you don’t want to spend money on your costume, or you’re too lazy to get one. If you liked a friend’s costume from a previous year, see if they still have it and ask to borrow it.
3. Swap a costume
If you had a great costume last year that you don’t want to wear again, see if someone will swap one of their costumes for your costume! You could even host a Halloween costume swap with your friends.
4. Rent a costume
If you really want to dress up for Halloween, rent a costume! You can search up Halloween costume rental stops, or even try e-commerce sites that ship to your area. If you’d like to rent a costume online, you can look on Costumes Galore - the company does international shipping.
5. Create your own costume, using secondhand stores
If you want to be crafty and make your own costume, use secondhand garments. Search up local thrift or consignment shops near you. If you like to shop online, you can also browse Etsy or eBay.
